CORRECTIVE BREATHING Breath is essential to life. It is the first thing we do when we are born and the last thing we do when we leave. In between that time, we take about half a billion breaths. Your breathing is influenced by your thoughts, and your thoughts and physiology can be influenced by your breath. In the medical community, there is a growing appreciation for the positive impact deep breathing can have on the physiology, both in the mind and the body. According to the research, many of these beneficial effects can be attributed to reducing the stress response in the body. Learning corrective breathing is a valuable tool in helping to restore balance (reducing anxiety and depression, lowering blood pressure, increasing energy levels, inducing muscle relaxation and decreasing feelings of stress and overwhelm).
RELAXATION When completely relaxed, the body and mind experience a welcome peace. Learn how to relax and re-pattern the body's response to stress, and create a familiarity with the state of relaxation. Directing awareness to the intentional release of stress, tensions and resistances within the body invites a surge of lightness and a sense of freedom that comes with letting go of those things that are weighing us down.
MINDFULNESS In an unnaturally stressful and fast moving, busy world, meditation is increasingly sought to bring a balance to our lives - balancing the inner realm of thought and feeling with the external world in which we live. Both mind and body benefit from taking time out of daily life to switch off from the world to meditate, but for anyone who experiences anxiety, the act of sitting 'silently still' and 'watching their thoughts' can be excruciatingly difficult! At the Clinic we use techniques that make mindfulness more accessible to those who experiences agitation when left to sit quietly with themself.
HOW CAN I POSSIBLY MEDITATE FOR A WHOLE DAY??!!?? Haha! This is the thing that surprises people the most! Anyone can do it! By the end of the day you will find you can too! But actually, to be completely honest this retreat isn't just about sitting in meditation for hours on end. In fact the opposite is true. We deeply explore ourselves, our physiological processes, and our reflex reactions through sensory feedback and lots of exercises that make the unconscious conscious so that you can live mindfully as you.
